Small Axe Peppers

Community growing spaces are becoming an increasingly commonplace presence in towns and cities around the world. As well as providing a bounty of seasonal, locally grown fruits and vegetables to city dwellers; these urban green spaces can be an enriching social experience that brings together disparate and niche communities.

I recently discovered a New York City based company called Small Axe Peppers who work with numerous community gardens in a growing number of cities across the United States. They support these neighbourhood growing spaces by enabling them to grow a variety of piquant hot peppers as a cash crop. These peppers are purchased by Small Axe, who use them to produce a range of delicious hot sauces.

I spoke to Caroline Crotty, who works in community outreach and social media for Small Axe Peppers, about their story and the amazing work that they do. You can hear the interview by clicking on the play button below.
